Welcome Professor Edmar Candeia Gurjão

Prof. Edmar Candeia Gurjão

Dr. Gurjão received a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from UFCG in 2003 and is currently a Professor in Electrical Engineering there.  He will be working in collaboration with Professor J. Nicholas Laneman in the Wireless Institute, both on specific research projects as well as collaborative research exchanges between Notre Dame and top Brazilian universities such as UFCG.

Dr. Gurjão's research interests are in the areas of signal processing as applied to telecommunications, specially software defined radio and compressed sampling. His projects have also included applying his knowledge to computer networks and programming. Initially he plans to focus on the application of compressive sensing in joint source-channel encoding, and aims to implement these developments in a software defined radio.

The Wireless Institute (WI) encourages extended visits by leading scholars in all aspects of wireless technology, economics, and policy. WI builds upon longstanding strengths in basic research on communication technologies which began on the Notre Dame campus in 1899 with one of the first long distance-wireless transmissions in North America and now consists of an interdisciplinary team of students, faculty, and staff from the Colleges of Engineering, Business, and Arts and Letters.
