Pratt Assists ND with FCC License Approval

Professor Thomas Pratt

An experimental Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license has recently been acquired by the University of Notre Dame to enable long-range radio frequency testing in outdoor settings.  The experimental license covers multiple frequency bands, including frequencies near 470 Mhz, 915 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, and 24 Ghz.  Professor Tom Pratt and other faculty and students will use the license in exploratory research and in current and pending grants involving the utilization of polarization in remote sensing, vibrometry, space-polarization multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) communications, radar operation in sea-clutter environments, ground-penetrating radar and target velocity sensing.  Special thanks to University Procurement Services and Daniel Brewer, C.P.M. for bringing this acquisition to fruition.
