Wireless Institute Welcomes Dr. Toros Arikan

The Wireless Institute is delighted to welcome Dr. Toros Arikan as the newest member of our faculty community. Joining the University of Notre Dame’s College of Engineering in the Fall of 2025, Dr. Arikan brings experience in signal processing for remote sensing and a strong commitment to advancing research and education in wireless systems.

Dr. Arikan’s work focuses on developing innovative approaches to localization, environment mapping, and tracking across diverse sensing environments. His research spans underwater acoustics, indoor radio frequency systems, and digital communications in challenging conditions. His research group is also exploring the use of deep learning to address long-standing open problems in remote sensing.

He earned his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and both his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

I am honored to have the opportunity to join a university as esteemed as Notre Dame, which pairs a top-notch electrical engineering program with one of the most collegial atmospheres I have experienced in higher education. The Wireless Institute excels in both the theory and the implementation of cutting-edge communications research, and I look forward to contributing to their body of expertise.

Dr. Arikan’s appointment strengthens the Wireless Institute’s growing research portfolio in sensing, communications, and intelligent systems. His experience in combining advanced signal processing with machine learning directly supports the Institute’s mission to advance wireless innovation and discovery.
