Abstract:

Machine learning has led to dramatic improvements to the state of the art in object recognition and natural language processing. These are specific examples of fields where a data-driven approach to algorithm design resulted in more optimal solutions. Are there aspects of wireless communications that can be re-imagined using a data-driven approach? In this talk, we will discuss one such problem: multi-bit feedback.

Wireless protocols widely utilize a single-bit feedback mechanism (e.g., ARQ, HARQ etc). What if we are able to provide more feedback? This talk will explore some frameworks for designing a wireless protocol for such a regime.
