SpectrumX – Radio Shop Chat: US Army Spectrum Process
Virtual
NSF SpectrumX invites you to the next Radio Shop Chat, “US Army Spectrum Process,” featuring Bruce Levine, Team Lead Secure Cellular, Network Modernization (NetMod), US Army, on Wednesday, June 4 at 3 p.m. EDT.
Registration is required and free.
Abstract:
The promise of being able to use the power of ubiquitous cellular networks to keep soldiers connected has tantalized senior leaders within the US Army for years. There are technical and policy barriers to be resolved before the vision of seamless connectivity already available to commercial cell phone subscribers can be provided to military personnel. This talk will describe the process for certifying radio equipment for transmission as well as the process for actually transmitting to provide cell service for military use no matter where soldiers go, including places where commercial cell coverage may or may not exist. The discussion concludes with some of the challenges that make this seemingly easy problem surprisingly hard.
