CSE Faculty Member Selected as Fulbright Scholar for 2018-19

Christian Poellabauer, associate professor of computer science and engineering, has been named a 2018-19 Fulbright Scholar and will spend part of the upcoming academic year (February through June 2019) as Fulbright Visiting Professor at Graz University of Technology (TU-Graz) in Styria, Austria.

At TU-Graz, he will explore challenges and opportunities in the area of the Internet of Things (IoT), specifically focusing on dependable IoT systems. One of the most challenging problems of IoT systems is their dependability, i.e., their ability to produce accurate and timely services without disruption. With the help of Kay Römer, professor and director of the Institute of Technical Informatics at TU-Graz and an internationally recognized expert on networked embedded systems, he will explore novel deep learning-based techniques to design, build and analyze dependable IoT systems. He will also teach an advanced course on the opportunities and challenges of IoT in healthcare. Poellabauer’s research interests encompass mobile computing and applications, healthcare technologies, wireless sensor networks, vehicular networks, wireless systems, and real-time computing. His work has been funded by organizations such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health, Department of Education, Department of Defense, Moore Family Foundation, National Football League, National Geographic, IBM and others. 

Poellabauer received the NSF’s Faculty Early Career Award in 2006. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a senior member of the Association for Computing Machinery and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He is also a member of the Advanced Diagnostics and Therapeutics initiative at Notre Dame.
