Professor Ghosh named to the FCC’s Technological Advisory Council

Professor Ghosh

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel announced the appointment of a diverse group of leading technology experts to serve as members of the Technological Advisory Council (TAC).  We are pleased to announce that Dr. Monisha Ghosh, Electrical Engineering Professor at the University of Notre Dame, Wireless Institute member, and Policy Outreach Director for SpectrumX, has been asked to serve.

The advisory council provides technical expertise to the Commission to identify important areas of innovation and inform technology policies. For example, the TAC will consider and advise the Commission on topics such as 6G, artificial intelligence, advanced spectrum sharing technologies, and emerging wireless technologies, including new tools to restore internet access during shutdowns and other disruptions.

“The United States must lead the world in advancing ambitious 6G research and development,” said Chairwoman Rosenworcel. “We know that maintaining our leadership in high-priority emerging technology requires careful planning and execution. There are signals that need our attention, from the need for more spectrum to the vulnerabilities of supply chains to the changing dynamics of global standards development. We are starting that work here and now by re-establishing the TAC and charging it to conceptualize 6G—to help set the stage for our leadership.”

Professor Ghosh has extensive expertise in industry, academia, and government-related broadband wireless communications technologies. “The TAC serves a vital role in advising the Commission: I look forward to working with experts from industry and academia on progressing the exciting agenda laid out by the Chairwoman,” said Ghosh.

The TAC will hold its first meeting on Monday, February 28, 2022, beginning at 10:00 a.m. EDT via video conference, and it will be available online at https://www.fcc.gov/live
